The Fellowship of the American American Academy of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry (FAAAI-D) is the Academy’s highest professional honor. It recognizes members who have made sustained, evidence-based contributions to dental AI through research, education, clinical leadership, and service to the Academy.
FAAAI-D Fellows represent integrity, scientific rigor, and a commitment to responsible, patient-centered innovation. They serve as ambassadors for trustworthy and clinically meaningful AI in dentistry.

Eligibility Requirements
Fellowship eligibility is determined under one of the pathways below.
Pathway A: Fellowship By Demonstrated Engagement
Eligibility under this pathway requires satisfaction of all mandatory requirements and at least three (3) of the eligibility criteria listed below.
Mandatory Requirements (All Required)
1. Active Membership
Applicants must hold active AAAI-D membership in good standing at the time of application, must maintain such membership through Fellowship conferral, and must continue to maintain active membership at all times to retain Fellowship status in good standing, subject to the Academy’s Fellowship maintenance and renewal requirements.
2. Documented Service to the Academy
A minimum of six (6) months of substantive service to the Academy. Service must be documented, assigned, or acknowledged by Academy leadership and may include council leadership, advisory roles, program or policy development, educational initiatives, research activities, or other formally assigned Academy responsibilities.
Eligibility Criteria (Meet At Least Three)
3. Qualifying Scholarly or Educational Publication
At least one qualifying publication published within the preceding five (5) years, including peer-reviewed research, reviews, editorials, consensus statements, or policy documents related to AI in dentistry or oral health.
4. Established Professional Standing
Demonstrated through faculty appointment, institutional leadership, professional organization leadership, editorial or peer-review roles, or a minimum of ten (10) years post-terminal-degree professional experience.
5. Demonstrated Commitment to Ethical and Evidence-Based AI
Documented involvement in governance, validation, evaluation, or responsible implementation of AI technologies in dentistry or healthcare.
6. Significant Contribution to Dental AI Education, Research, or Policy
Leadership or material contribution to recognized educational programs, research initiatives, policy efforts, or institutional projects related to dental AI.
Pathway B: Standard Fellowship (One-Year Path)
Eligibility under this pathway requires satisfaction of all requirements listed below.
1. Membership in Good Standing
Continuous AAAI-D membership in good standing for a minimum of one (1) year immediately preceding Fellowship consideration.
2. Documented Service to the Academy
At least six (6) months of documented service to the Academy during the one-year qualification period. Service must be documented, assigned, or acknowledged by Academy leadership.
3. Dental AI–Related Continuing Education
Completion of a minimum of ten (10) hours of documented dental AI–related continuing education during the one-year qualification period. Qualifying education must be educational in nature and may include AAAI-D-provided or accredited programs, or institutionally recognized offerings. Vendor marketing or promotional activities do not qualify.
4. Letters of Support
Applicants must submit two (2) letters of recommendation from current AAAI-D members in good standing at the time of application. Letters should address the applicant’s professional judgment, integrity, and demonstrated commitment to ethical, patient-centered, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in dentistry. Recommendation letters from Fellows are not required.
Application Process
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria under the applicable Fellowship pathway may submit an application. Applications will be accepted beginning July 31, 2026.
- Submission of a completed Fellowship application form.
- Submission of a current curriculum vitae and any required supporting materials, including publications or documentation relevant to the applicable Fellowship pathway.
- Submission of two (2) letters of support from AAAI-D members in good standing, where required under the applicable Fellowship pathway.
- Review of the application by the Fellowship Committee designated by the Board.
- Final approval by the AAAI-D Board.
- Issuance of the Fellowship certificate and inclusion in the Academy’s public Fellow listing.
Fellowship Fees
The Fellowship conferral fee is set at USD $150, unless revised by the Academy in accordance with its governance processes.
Fellowship Term and Renewal
Fellowship (FAAAI-D) is conferred for a term of three (3) years.
To remain in good standing, Fellows must, during each renewal cycle:
- Maintain active AAAI-D membership in good standing.
- Submit a Fellowship renewal form in the manner prescribed by the Academy.
- Continue to meet the Academy’s standards of professional and ethical conduct.
- Pay the applicable Fellowship renewal fee, as established by the Academy in that year.
Fellowship status will lapse if renewal requirements are not satisfied within six (6) months following the expiration of the Fellowship term.
