AAAI-D × CranioCatch Virtual Simulation Lab

The AAAI-D Virtual Simulation Lab, developed in collaboration with CranioCatch, provides eligible AAAI-D members with access to educational AI simulations that promote AI literacy and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in dentistry.

The platform allows participants to observe how one AI-assisted image analysis system processes selected dental images and generates outputs while reinforcing the importance of independent professional judgment.

Who Can Access?

The Virtual Simulation Lab is available to eligible AAAI-D members, including:

  • Dental students
  • Residents
  • Dental faculty
  • Practicing dentists
  • Eligible oral healthcare professionals

How It Works

  1. Log in using your AAAI-D member account.
  2. Launch the CranioCatch Virtual Simulation Lab.
  3. Independently review the educational case using your own knowledge and reasoning.
  4. Compare your observations with the AI-generated output.
  5. Reflect on the similarities, differences, and limitations of the AI system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install any software?

No. The Virtual Simulation Lab is entirely web-based and accessible through a modern web browser.

Is this intended to teach diagnosis?

No. The Virtual Simulation Lab is not intended to teach diagnosis or clinical decision-making. It is a basic educational simulation designed to help participants understand how one AI-assisted image analysis system processes selected dental images and generates outputs.

Participants first evaluate each case using their own knowledge and clinical reasoning. They then compare their observations with the AI-generated output to better understand how this particular AI system analyzes the same images.

The platform is intended to demonstrate the capabilities and limitations of one AI system. It does not represent all AI systems or establish a standard for AI performance. The AI outputs shown are limited to the selected educational cases included within the platform.

The Virtual Simulation Lab is designed to complement—not replace—instructor-led education, supervised clinical training, faculty mentorship, or independent professional judgment. It is not intended to provide clinical diagnoses, establish standards of care, or direct patient treatment.

Who developed the platform?

The Virtual Simulation Lab is provided by CranioCatch through an educational collaboration with the American Academy of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry (AAAI-D).

Is access included with AAAI-D membership?

Access is available to eligible AAAI-D members in accordance with applicable membership categories and program availability.

Educational Relationship and Disclaimer

Access to or participation in the Virtual Simulation Lab does not constitute an endorsement, certification, accreditation, validation, or recommendation by AAAI-D of CranioCatch or any commercial product, software platform, technology, or service.

The educational simulations are intended only to illustrate how one AI-assisted image analysis system functions in selected educational cases. They are not intended to represent all AI systems, establish standards of care, or replace independent professional judgment. Participants remain solely responsible for all clinical decisions and patient care.
