Membership FAQ

Do I need to know anything about AI to join?

No. You don’t need any background at all. Curiosity is enough. Members range from beginners to people already using AI tools in clinics, research, or tech.

Why should I join? What makes this Academy worth it?

Most people join because they don’t want to be passive while AI quietly reshapes dentistry. They want to understand what’s coming, learn how to use the tools responsibly, and make sure patients aren’t left behind.

You’re joining a community of clinicians, students, educators, researchers, and allies who care about getting this right. It’s not about hype. It’s about being prepared, informed, and part of a group working to keep AI grounded in real patient care.

What if I’m unsure about AI or not very tech-savvy?

That’s exactly why the Academy exists. Many members join because they feel uncertain, curious, or even skeptical. The Academy offers clear explanations, practical guidance, and a no-pressure place to learn at your own pace — without sales pitches or complicated jargon.

How does joining actually help me in my career?

It helps you in two ways: skills and voice.

  • Skills: You’ll learn how to interpret AI outputs, understand limitations, compare devices, and recognize common pitfalls.
  • Voice: You’ll be part of discussions that shape how AI is used in clinics, education, and patient communication.

I’m busy… why invest time in this?

Because AI isn’t going away, and avoiding it now means catching up later. Even giving an hour here and there makes you far more prepared than most clinicians will be in the next few years.

I’m a student — why should I join?

Students join because they want mentorship, early AI literacy, and meaningful experiences that strengthen their CVs and residency applications.

I live outside the U.S. Should I still join?

Yes. AI in dentistry is global. International members receive the same educational materials, mentorship, and opportunities, and your perspective adds real value.

What memberships do you offer?

Regular, Student/Resident, International, Lifetime, and Corporate Supporter memberships. Details are on the Membership page.

How much does membership cost?

It depends on your category. Founding-year reduced rates are offered. Final dues appear during registration.

How long does membership last?

Memberships are annual except Lifetime. Renewal reminders are automatic.

Are membership dues tax-deductible?

Membership dues may be tax-deductible in part, to the extent permitted by law, as a portion reflects the value of member benefits.

How is the deductible portion determined?

The Academy assigns a standard estimated value to member benefits each year. The remaining portion of dues may be considered a charitable contribution. A receipt reflecting this can be provided upon request.

Can I donate without joining?

Yes. Anyone may donate through our Support page.

Does the Academy conduct research?

No. AAAI-D does not conduct research. It supports research through education, transparency, and collaboration.

Do you acknowledge corporate supporters?

Yes, unless they request anonymity.

What if I join and later change my mind?

You can withdraw anytime. Dues are non-refundable.

How are dues and donations used?

Funds support education, mentorship, public resources, member services, and nonprofit operations.

Can I volunteer?

Yes. Volunteers help with small tasks, outreach, and early council work. No AI experience required.

Who counts as a Founding Member?

The first 500 people across all categories — including students and allied health — will be recognized as Founding Members.
