Dr. Chun-Wang (Reinhard) Chau

Biography:

Dr. Chun-Wang (Reinhard) Chau is a PhD candidate in AI-Powered Preventive Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong and founder of a social enterprise focused on community oral health innovation. He developed an AI-powered smartphone tool for early gingivitis detection that has been deployed in senior daycare centers and pharmacies, demonstrating strong acceptance and measurable improvements in oral health outcomes.

His publications include two papers ranked among the top 1% most-cited in Clinical Medicine, and he is a two-time IADR award recipient. Dr. Chau serves on the AAAI-D Council for Education and Professional Learning and holds roles with AMIA’s Dental Informatics Working Group and the ITU/WHO/WIPO Global Initiative on Artificial Intelligence for Health.

Since 2023, he has provided AI-supported oral health outreach to more than 5,200 underserved older adults and students.

Dr. Ashley L. Madern

Biography:

Dr. Ashley L. Madern, DMD, MS is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Oral & Maxillofacial Radiologist at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine–Arizona, where she was named Specialty Faculty of the Year in 2025.

A founding member of the American Academy of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry and an active member of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Dr. Madern’s scholarly work sits at the intersection of advanced imaging, AI-driven diagnostics, and dental education. Her research includes deep learning-based canal morphology classification using CBCT, radiation safety awareness across dental professions, and multiple peer-reviewed publications in implantology, oral radiology, and oral pathology.

She holds a U.S. patent for an X-ray aiming ring apparatus and has presented nationally on AI in dentistry, CBCT interpretation, and evidence-based imaging practice. Prior to academia, Dr. Madern served as a General Dentist in the United States Navy. She is committed to advancing thoughtful, evidence-informed integration of AI into dental education and clinical practice.
